libopensc

OpenSC provides a set of libraries and utilities to access SmartCard devices. Its main focus is on cards that support cryptographic operations, and facilitate their use in security applications such as mail encryption, authentication, and digital signature.

Basic functionality should work on any ISO 7816-4 compatible SmartCard. Encryption and decryption using private keys on the SmartCard is possible with PKCS #15 compatible cards, such as the FINEID (Finnish Electronic IDentity) card.
